Trainers Mohammed Ali Ibrahim and Abdulai Abdul Rashid (in green) conduct a multi-day field training session in the Langa community, Northern Region. Women beekeepers examine colony status during hands-on training, learning to distinguish active, damaged, and uncolonized hives.

The Sorigu SheKeeper Women's Group receives a briefing on hive management practices and project progress. Community Development Chairman joins project field staff for discussions on diversified livelihoods, including beekeeping, in the Langa community.

Hive conditions & site visits

recording hive conditions
relocating bait hives
Field staff document hive conditions across participant sites, categorizing hives as active, colonized, damaged, or destroyed. Hives relocated to more favorable positions to encourage natural colonization during swarming season.

Program-wide / coordination

reviewing hive records
evening debriefing
SheKeeper field coordinator reviews hive distribution records with community members to ensure accurate reporting. Participants and field staff share observations during an evening training session — part of a broader effort to build beekeeping capacity among rural women's cooperatives in Northern Ghana.

The SheKeeper project continues to demonstrate that with proper support, training, and community engagement, women in Northern Ghana can successfully develop beekeeping as a sustainable income source alongside their traditional shea collection activities.
